Fires
Fire is unique because it can either be beneficial natural process or a devastating event on the environment. Each year millions of acres are lost by fires hungry hand. The same amount is lost to logging and agriculture. Fire is used to clear land for crop fields. However this causes an alteration to the structure of a forest, invites invasive species which threatens biological diversity, alters water cycles and soil fertility. A majority of humans believe that fires destroy wildlife habitat which leads to an increase in logging. Loggers thin out the forest of burnt trees and to prevent a wide spread fire. Even though the trees are being logged under good intentions, this is actually the biggest threat to the worlds forest ecosystem. Forest fires can be beneficial to the ecosystem by cleaning out diseased plants and harmful insects along with regenerating seeds.
Illegal logging
Illegal logging occurs around the world, and is more common in some places rather than others. These acts cause extreme devastation to the most famous forest on earth, The Amazon, Congo Basin, and the Russian Far East. The logging of the Russian Far East, or the Ussuri Taiga, is due to the large demand for timber in the Chinese furniture and flooring manufacturers. If this forest continues to disappear, the Amur tiger, who calls it home, may disappear with it. Brazil's government is weak allowing criminals to come in and harvest the priceless Amazon Rain Forest. 78% of the logging in the Para State, Brazil, occurs illegal. The second largest tropical rain forest is the Congo Basin, which is home to millions of people along with thousands of plants and animals. However the Congo is a major target for Palm Oil companies, causing wide spread deforestation. Illegal logging impacts the environment and economy. Everything from lower timber prices in the world market, to lower quality of lively hoods in local communities. Millions of people depend on the forest for hunting, gathering, and medicine. When criminals come through a forest, they force villagers to work in inhumane conditions. This can lead to social conflict and migration.
Effects of Deforestation on Humanity
Deforestation is one of the most serious problems of the world. Millions of indigenous people live in the tropical forest, which covers 3.6 million square miles of our world. As tropical forest are transformed, tribe groups are forced to change their way of life by coming together with other miss-placed groups or search for employment. these people's right to the land is usually over looked along with their knowledge about how to mange the land. Humans relay on wood for many everyday uses, such as shelter, fuel, heating and materials. And a factor that hardly anyone thinks about is breathing. Trees provide this earth with oxygen, which is critical to every living things survival.
