Wright became the driving force behind the 1991 creation of Ranomafana National Park in the southeast portion of the country. They fought to slow the deforestation of Madagascar's forest, which has already lost 90% of its land area and ecosystem. In March of 2009 there was a great effort to end the poaching of lemurs and illegal logging in the National Parks. The actions of Wright and others have had some affect. Still Patricia Wright is pressing to save the Madagascar Rain forest and more specifically the lemurs and toe world wide protection of tropical forest.
